Youth Spirit Auction a Huge Success!

On Sunday August 17th, Youth Spirit Artworks held its first silent auction of 50+ art chairs created by over 25 youth participants in our 2007/08 program. The auction from Noon to 5pm was part of Oaklandish's 3rd Annual Radio Regatta at Lake Merritt Boat House in Lakeside Park, Oakland. Learn more about Oaklandish. Over 400 people attended the Regatta, enjoying boat rides, FM micro radio and wonderful food, in addition to participating in the silent auction. More than 40 chairs were sold, a fantastic start to our organization's efforts beginning to sell our artists chairs. A dozen Youth Spirit Artists volunteered at the event, giving boat rides to participants, as well as sharing with visitors about their art work. Additionally, YSA staff and board members were on hand throughout the day to help with auction festivities. Youth Spirit is grateful to the staff of Oaklandish for their tremendous generosity and kindness in including us in the Radio Regatta. It was a truly wonderful, deeply Spirited day. |

Bollard Mosaic Street Art Workshop
Youth Spirit Artworks held its Bollard Mosaic Street Art Workshop on Saturday May 17th at the intersection of Harmon and California Streets in Berkeley's Lorin neighborhood. This is part of our Healthy South Berkeley Turn-A-Rounds, Benches and Bollards Campaign focusing on health education in South Berkeley. The City of Berkeley again provided food and drinks. Youth worker leaders of the project from YSA passed out literature promoting health (compliments of the Dept. of Public Health) as they and the YSA staff encouraged all participants to create designs on the theme of health and health care reform. Applications for Program now online
Youth Spirit Artworks is now accepting applications for its arts furniture painting jobs program. Spaces are limited--Youth Spirit will accept 20 youth for the program. The summer program is held from 9:30am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday at Berkeley Technology Academy, Art Studio/Room 126, 2701 Martin Luther King Jr. Way (at Derby), Berkeley, CA 94703. Free lunch is provided. All participating youth completing the program will receive stipends, as well as 50 percent of the proceeds of everything they sell. Announcing the 2008 South Berkeley Youth "Art Bench" Competition
Youth Spirit Artworks is holding an art competition for Berkeley youth, giving young people the opportunity to create art designs for wooden benches along the Adeline Street Corridor in South Berkeley. The bench designs chosen will be painted on nine local benches in 2008. The name of the artist/designer will be designated on each bench. Be sure to learn more about the competition.

- March 1 through 31st 2008 Youth Spirit ArtWorks held an exhibit of our artist's chairs and drawings at Sweet Adeline Bake Shop, 3350 Adeline Street, Berkeley, CA 94703 (cross street 63rd near Stanton). All art featured is for sale.
- Saturday March 15, 2008 at Sweet Adeline: our Artists Reception and Tile Painting Workshop, part of our "Beautiful South Berkeley Bollards, Benches and Turn-A-Rounds" 2008 community art project focused on the topic of being our best selves/taking care of our health.
